Adjectives

Like in other languages, French adjectives are used to better describe a noun. They give better precision the the nouns.

French adjectives agree in gender (masc/fem) and number (sing/pluriel) with the noun.

A general rule with French is adjectives is that they are placed after the noun:

• Nationality: un acteur chinois
• Colour and form: un ballon rouge
• Emotion: Les enfants heureux

Exceptions

As with a number of things in French, there are exceptions. These exceptions can be classified under the acronym BANGS

• Beauty: beau/bel/belle - une belle fille
• Age: jeune, vieux/viel/vielle, ancien, nouveau/nouvel/nouvelle - un jeune garçon
• Number: premier, deuxième... - le premier jour
• Goodness: bon/bonne, mauvais/mauvaise - un bon film
• Size: grand/grande, gros/grosse - une grosse femme
